The trips are ambitiously, but reasonably, paced expeditions along the famed Laugavegurinn Trail, and suitable for most levels of mountain bikers, the trails are not highly technical, steep or exposed. Even the cycnical travelers can’t help but stop every five minutes to take photos of the incredible scenery, so there is always time to catch up and no need to worry about keeping up.

We will then have a quick lunch before heading out to one of our favorite trails on the outskirts of Reykjavik, complete with thermal pots, hot springs, and beautiful hiking and mountain biking.
Day 2 – Leaving early at 7am, we will drive to Landmannalaugar and the start of the famous Laugavegur Trek. This area is the beginning of many expeditions and has a base camp feel. The trail today is one of our favorites in Iceland. It is a full fifteen miles of up and down, rolling hills and the famous ranbow, pastel colored mountains on to our next base at Lake Alftavatn. We will also likely have time for a pre-ride, up nearby Blahnkur mountain before setting out for the lake. Today is a full day of some very fun mountain biking. After, a gourmet dinner and camp at one of the most beautiful, lakeside camping spots in Iceland.
Day 3 – A more relaxed morning today after several consecutive days of travel and riding. But after a serious, hot cooked breakfast we are going to make the big push today to ride all the way to magical Porsmork. The ride today features a knee-to-thigh deep river crossing, packed, black volcano sand ride, a couple of very fun descents and some jaw-dropping, endless view desolate landscapes.
Day 4 – The kingdom of Porsmork is our playground today, one of our favorite places in Iceland. Quietly, and with respect to this beautiful and preserved Icelandic wilderness and the locals who live and ride here….. we will ride our mountain bikes. There are multiple, different routes we can take today, connecting loops averaging between 5 and 20 miles. We can come back in between loops, for barbeque and cold beverages, then head back out. Or rest. Today you will have plentiful opportunity to get out on your own for awhile if that is your thing, or preferably, ride with the group. We are staying here at this wonderful place again tonight, so you have much more flexibility. This is a dream playground !
Day 5 – We are spending another full day and night in Porsmork, because it is that good here! Today though, we are going out a bit off the beaten path to some trails that receive very little other use. We’ll be getting off the bikes a few times, for some side hikes and visits to waterfalls and even a natural hot spring. There is the added possibility of a glacier visit, if time and energy allow.
Day 6 – There is an amazing trail that connects Porsmork with the famous waterfall of Skogafoss on the southern coast. Leaving right from camp, it is fourteen miles in length and is a steep uphill climb, thus its not suitable for everyone. But, with our creative logistics no one has to miss out.
Those not opting for the sufferfest (and by now most of us will be a bit tuckered out from 5 straight days of mountain biking) will go instead by van over to the end of the trail at Skogar, where we will still climb up to the iconic Skogafoss waterfall, and then with the option to bike or hike up above it as far as you want. There are many other waterfalls that cascade down this beautiful volcanic mountain of Eyjafjallajokull, (the same one that erupted in 2010) on a very nice trail. Late evening return to Reykjavik for a celebratory dinner and optional Friday night out on the town.
