Trip Type: Ski or Snowboarding at Icelandic resorts
Highlights:
The trip is based in the adorable small city of Akureyri, located on the largest fjord in Iceland, Eyjafjordur, on the Troll Peninsula.
You’ll have access to 3 different Icelandic ski resorts and possibilities for skiing fresh tracks every day. This versatile terrain is made up of peaks ranging between 800 and 1100 meters so there’s always great skiing in variable conditions. At the end of the day, you can find a warm place to relax your muscles in Iceland’s natural hot springs. With the continual daylight of the Arctic Sun overhead and mild temperatures, snow conditions remain favorable with great corn skiing and often powder well into mid May.

Trip Itinerary:

Day 1 – The trip begins today at noon in Akureyri, that allows you to arrive from the US into Reykjavik this morning, if you have limited time it is perfect. We can pick you up at the airport, while others may have driven in or flown in earlier. We’ll check into our house apartment for our stay, and get everyone’s skis and boards checked and dialed in. There is the option to get in a bit of time skiing or boarding yet today, but usually we take some time to check out town, which is really a cool place, local hot springs, the Arctic Ocean, etc
Day 2 – A big hearty, hot cooked breakfast before starting the day on the slopes of Hlíðarfjall, Iceland’s second largest (and some say the best!) ski area.
There are opportunities for out of bounds skiing/boarding for more advanced riders otherwise the resort itself has plenty of intermediate runs

Day 3 – Today we will ski or snowboard the ski resort in the adorable seaside town of Siglurfjordur. Arriving relatively early, we will hit the slopes hard for several hours and then drive to a stunning infinity hotspring pool overlooking the Arctic Ocean, a real highlight of the trip and we can chill as long as we want before heading back to our apartment in Akureyri.
Day 4 – Our third day of skiing or snowboarding Iceland will be based in probably our favorite valley in Iceland, Olafsfjordur. We will spend the first half of the day riding the slopes, and there are some interesting optional activities today like back country touring, (climbing with skins), and also snowcat and snowmobile assist excursions higher up into the mountains.
Then in late afternoon you will probably be a bit tired after several days in the snow and we have included in your trip a whale watching boat trip, another highlight of the trip that travelers consistently enjoy. Tonight in Akureyri we’ll have a farewell dinner in town.

Day 5 –An included breakfast at the apartment, after which most folks will need to head to the airport. Most flights to the US leave in late afternoon (and arrive the same day, with the time change !) and so it is definitely possible to fly out of Akureyri this morning, and then connect in Keflavik to your international flight back home. Of course, other travelers will probably stay on longer in Reykjavik and/or Akureyri.
Trip Inclusions: Rental 4×4 vehicles for the duration of the trip, apartment in Rejkyavik the first night then in Ólafsfjörður, the services of the mountain guide for the duration of the trip, radio vhf for emergency.
Meals Included: Breakfast and Lunch Days 2,3, and 4.
Trip Exclusions: International flight to/from Rejkyavik, a few meals, skis or snowboards, expedition/travel insurance
