While it is true that travel to this exotic country has recently gotten a bit more complicated, it is still allowed to visit Cuba on an authorized itinerary and KB Tambo has several of them to choose from, depending on your preferred style of travel. Located only ninety miles from Key West, Cuba is of course known for the art, music, history and the vibrant capital city of Havana; but what many people don’t know is that it also has outstanding mountain and forest scenery with horseback riding and hiking, as well as beautiful beaches and idyllic historic towns.dating back to the 1530’s.
We have been traveling to Cuba for more than 15 years, and since 2016 we have organized active and cultural trips there for hundreds of travelers.
Of course the first question many people have is, “Is it legal to travel to Cuba?” and the answer is, “As long as the many new rules are abided by, yes it is”. KB Tambo has authorized itineraries to Cuba in the Support for the Cuban People category, making sure your trip is permitted while also mixing in a very impressive variety of activities – cultural, historical, and adventure – with also spending time with the locals of this fascinating country
Our Cuba Trips:
We have several different options for visiting Cuba, and all our our trips comply with new US laws regarding travel there. Cuba has a little bit of everything to offer; two things that often surprise people is how expensive it is to get around outside Havana, and how far the distances are. You can do a long weekend just in Havana pretty inexpensively, but once you start moving out into the outer provinces where the nature and water activities are, it takes more time and budget.
We have a few different trips to offer:
Multisport Cuba – This is by far our most popular trip to Cuba. While the sporting activities are not extreme by any measure, they do offer a nice change of pace from the usual sight-seeing circuit of a visit to Cuba. We visit Havana, Cienfuegos (Bay of Pigs) and Trinidad to do some hiking, a bicycle ride, some snorkel and/or scuba outings, and an optional horseback ride through the Cuban forest.
Cultural Visit to Cuba – There are nearly unlimited cultural opportunities in Cuba, including art museums, rum and cigar factory visits, ballet, live music, historical visits such as to the former home of Ernest Hemingway, and much more. Take a salsa dance class from a local, learn to make a mojito or “ropa vieja” (a national dish) from a regular resident of Havana, and much more. We offer a standard Culture tour that offers a bit of everything while visiting Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad, or we can custom create an itinerary to focus on the things that interest you most.
Mountain Bike Cuba – We have a limited amount of spots available on a couple of advanced mountain bike trips to Cuba, each of them culminating in a local race. We are traveling under the category exception of, “Sporting Event or Competition”. The mountain bike scene in Cuba is not well developed (we are helping as best we can!) so this trip requires some moderate fitness and a more relaxed attitude as the routes are still being cleaned and refined.
